Do Chemical Peels Work to Clear Acne?

October 17, 2016 By Constance Tambakis-Odom

metro medispa chemical peelsAcne is a problem no one likes.  Sometimes it responds to simple over-the-counter solutions and sometimes not. With an increased number of spas offering chemical peels as an acne treatment, it’s time to learn about them.

Administered by expert technicians, a chemical peel is a solution applied to the face (neck, hands and may also be treated) that will result in a controlled “shedding” of the skin. The old skin peels away to reveal fresh new skin.

How is it beneficial?

Topical acne medications treat the symptoms but fail to provide healthy skin that is when a chemical peel is helpful. It is an entirely safe treatment. The result of chemical peels is the reduction of the look of acne scars and blemishes by smoothing the skin. Chemical peels also eliminate excess oil in the skin which helps control acne breakouts.

What are the side effects?

Using a good quality sunscreen after a chemical peel treatment is a must because the skin is very susceptible to sunburn.  Consulting with a skin technician before a chemical peel is necessary to determine skin sensitivity and to discuss any issues with skin discoloration.

Do they remove acne?

Chemical peel is the most efficient and reasonably painless treatment for mild acne, acne scars or red marks. The dermatological community advises that for the best long term results use chemical peels in conjunction with medications and a daily skin care regime. A chemical peel is not a permanent solution to acne with no additional treatment the results will last up to two months.

Regardless of the strength of chemical peel used, the end goal of all chemical peels is the same: to leave the skin regenerated, smoother and with a youthful, dewy glow.

3 Reasons for a Monthly Chemical Peel

October 19, 2015 By Constance Tambakis-Odom

Metro MediSpa, chemical peelOur skin is a great gift of nature. On one hand it serves as a boundary to prevent damage from our surroundings and on the other hand it beautifies us. Having healthy skin is what we all want. So no matter what your engagements are throughout the month, never forget to give your skin a little treatment. A chemical peel is an often-opted treatment for a myriad of skin conditions.

We are going to limit the discussion to the three main aspects a chemical peel restores the beauty and delicacy of your skin.

Pore Reduction

The size of the pores and their number in your skin is genetically determined so there is no way to change that permanently, but to have a better appearance a salicylic acid peel is your best bet. It is lipophilic that means it resides in the membranes of your pores and at least temporarily decreases the size of your pores giving the skin a smoother texture.

Acne Scars

Acne can be a very unsightly and distressing problem for some people and using a chemical peel very effectively helps keep the acne at bay. Scarring and marks left from acne can be treated with an acne chemical peel. An acne peel solution when applied to the skin causes the skin to blister and peel off. This exfoliation of the skin stimulates the formation new skin that has no blemishes or scars. Chemical peels also have a positive effect on areas of hypopigmentation reducing the darker color giving a more even tone to your skin.

Wrinkle Reduction

Scars and wrinkles give the skin an uneven texture.  A chemical peel reduces this texture giving the skin a more even, smooth texture.  Some minor scars on the skin can be eliminated with a chemical peel.

Take care of your skin and treat it to a monthly spa treatment.  Let Metro MediSpa give your skin a vibrant healthy, glow with a chemical peel.

The Secret to Glowing Summer Skin

July 6, 2015 By Constance Tambakis-Odom

summer skin, chemical peel, VI peelThe speed at which our skin renews itself is one of the chief factors that influences its health. This process is impeded by our aging process and the elasticity and glow of our skin that vanishes with age. However, this situation can be delayed or averted by stimulating youthful skin to regenerate. This can be done by going in for chemical peels.

This skin rejuvenation method is open to men and women. Men opting for it should not shave their faces on the day of the treatment and women should exfoliate facial skin or use a topical cream recommended by their doctor for at least 72 hours before undergoing this treatment. The skin becomes more sensitive to natural sunlight after the peel, so staying away from direct sunlight is recommended.

Kinds of chemical peels: These days, there are several kinds of chemical peels, ranging from light acid to deeper ones that get rid of fine lines, scars, acne and sun damage. Here are the chief among them:

Glycolic Acid Peel: This peel treatment is a member of the alpha hydroxyl family. It is a derivative of sugar cane and is seen as a natural product. It helps exfoliate the skin and give a smooth and glowing complexion. This chemical peel helps to fade any sun damage to the skin, fine lines, hyper-pigmentation, scarring, dull skin and melasma.

Salicylic Acid Peel: Salicylic acid belongs to the beta hydroxyl family and, like glycolic acid peels, is also seen as a natural product. It helps prevent and treat acne.

Vi Peel: A Vi Peel is specifically undergone when one wants to improve one’s skin tone, get rid of fine lines and fade blemishes and pigmentation. It is considered to be far stronger than the glycolic and salicylic peels. A Vi peel contains a harmonious blend of strong and effective ingredients that are just right for all complexion types. An after-effect of this treatment is several days of skin peeling and noticeable changes in the skin within a few days. It is advisable to undergo this treatment about four times a year to prevent signs of aging.

Trichloroacetic acid (TCA): Yet another popular chemical peel, this one is used by dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons to eliminate wrinkles and acne scarring for smooth and glowing skin. This form of chemical peel treatment attacks the lower layers of the skin, thus offering really good results with fresh skin appearing within a few weeks of taking the treatment.

Always consult with a doctor about which chemical peel is right for your skin type and the skin issues you are trying to resolve.
