Weight Loss and Fat Loss are dependent upon 3 factors:
1) Metabolism
Metabolism is based on your BMR (Body Metabolic Rate) which measures how many calories you burn on a daily basis. If you take in more calories than you use, you will gain weight.
If you use up more calories than you take in you will lose weight. A slow metabolism is usually caused by poor diet, lack of exercise, low hormone levels, age and genetics. This metabolism protocol addresses diet and exercise.
Medication may be administered with an energy injection (B12 or MIC.) This is the most popular type of diet but is usually short term unless the other aspects are addressed.
2) Hormones
Hormones are essential to losing weight and fat .They help maintain muscle mass while losing fat, essential when lowing calorie intake. The hormones Testosterone, Estrogen, DHEA, Cortisol, Human Growth Hormone (HGH), and Thyroid Hormone have direct links to weight and fat loss or gain, and the maintenance of both.
Hormones can help increase the metabolism which aids in burning fat. The balance and optimization of Growth Hormone, Testosterone and Estrogen and are important to maintaining lean muscle and reducing fat. The Thyroid gland produces T3, T4 and Thyroxine which regulates metabolism. The adrenal hormones are discussed below.
Our HRT Programs use bio-identical hormones under the direct supervision of Metro MediSpa owner and physician, Connie Odom, M.D.
3) Adrenal Fatigue
Adrenal Fatigue can contribute to weight gain, but is rarely addressed by many weigh loss counseling programs. Hormones produced by the adrenal glands include DHEA and Cortisol. Stress increases Cortisol levels and when Cortisol levels are high, DHEA is usually low. High Cortisol levels promote storing fat storage and decrease the natural production of other hormones.
DHEA regulates glucose metabolism. Low DHEA can increase in insulin and the body to store fat. A low calorie diet, without a program to address hormonal impact, can stress on the body abd elevate Cortisol and lower DHEA .
This is why so many people experience frustrating plateaus while dieting. Although they lose weight, they may not see any dramatic changes in body fat. Others will put the weight and fat back on quickly. Many on a weight loss program should be on Adrenal Support Supplementation.
Nutrition
Deficiencies in vitamins, minerals, amino acids or antioxidants can lead to a breakdown in your body’s functional ability and can literally shorten your life span. Some deficiencies can even inhibit the effects of Hormone Replacement Therapy.
Most Americans consume too many high glycemic carbohydrates, those that cause rapid increases in blood sugar levels and, thus, insulin production. This causes fat storage, accelerates hardening arteries, and can lead to diabetes.
It also causes glycosylation of proteins – carbohydrates sticking to proteins which can affect the body’s production and use of hormones, muscle building and repair, and immune functions, all leading to faster aging and less than optimum health.
Because insulin and HGH use the same receptor sites on a cell, a high glycemic diet can potentially inhibit receptiveness to Hormone Replacement Therapy.
By consistently following a diet high in nutritious plants, healthy fats, fiber and lean protein, our body gets the tools it needs for a healthy immune system, and to repair tissues and maintain optimal health. Metro MediSpa’s professional staff can help you with proper nutrition to get the best results possible with HRT while optimizing your overall health. We don’t impose a strict diet, but focus on empowering your with information to make good decisions about your personal nutrition.
Exercise
One can reap benefits of Hormone Replacement Therapy without exercise. However, raising hormone levels without exercising is like putting regular gas in a Lamborghini that wants high octane. It works, but not at optimum levels.
Virtually everyone can slow the aging process with exercise and are similar to those of Hormone Replacement Therapy: gains in muscle size and strength, fat loss, more energy, a sense of well being and decreased anxiety and depression. Both can raise HDL (good) cholesterol, lessen hypertension, improve the immune system, and aid in protecting the body against diseases, including heart disease, stroke, diabetes and osteoporosis.
HRT makes exercise more inviting and beneficial because it enhances lean muscle mass, energy, strength, as well as speeding healing times. The staff at Metro MediSpa has found that many clients, once too tired to exercise, now have the energy to exercise regularly and enjoy it much more. Some have even found their bodies transforming into toner, younger, leaner more vibrant versions of themselves.
