So it’s summertime again and still you haven’t reached your goal weight—you might have lost a huge chunk of weight or you might be at the beginning of your weight loss but what you must remember is that losing the weight sometimes comes with worrisome consequences, and that listening to your body is just as important as pushing yourself.
Many men and women on the HCG diet that we offer have noticed a HUGE improvement in their body weight, especially around their middles. Losing stomach weight is an important goal because all that added fat puts you at super high risk for diabetes and heart disease. So, before you get started on your awesome journey to skinny, we wanted to share with you a few tips from the pros about what to watch out for when you take on the challenge of losing that weight with our special, super effective dieting formula.
Loss of Bone Density
Once and again studies show that people who are on severe diets tend to take in less calcium than those not dieting. This is more prevalent in women, but can still be really harmful whether you’re a woman or a man. Many diet programs that limit what you eat do not leave room for calcium rich dairy products, and several studies have concluded that supplement pills just aren’t cutting it. Our advice? Try to limit yourself to 500mg of calcium per meal; that seems to be the maximum your body will absorb. Look for food and drink you already consume but that is calcium fortified—even orange juice is, nowadays. Be in the sun! Vitamin D is an important part of your calcium routine, as it allows for the calcium to be absorbed better. If you can’t get in to the sun to get your vitamin D, take a supplement. Remember that dieting will not show the results you want without exercise, and exercise can also help you build up bone strength, so be it running, Zumba, or world class weight lifting, get that heart pumping.
Loss of muscle
Many people on traditional diets notice their scales are saying that they are dropping fat like a hot potato, and they are often too happy to realize that perhaps the weight loss they’re seeing is not coming from FAT loss. As soon as you start dieting, your body starts eating away at your muscles, not necessarily your fat! That means that those pounds you’re shedding are coming out of the muscles, bones and organs in your body. You’re losing weight in order to look good, maybe even toned, so losing muscle is definitely NOT what you’re trying to do. Our advice? Don’t forget to exercise. Exercise builds muscle, and muscles are hungry, wasteful things that crave protein and fat—and your body gives them that protein and fat instead of depositing it in your thighs! When you’re exercising, try to confuse your muscles by not giving them the same sort of exercise too often or at the same time. Routines are all well and good, but you need muscle confusion to really get toned—too much cardio is also a muscle killer. Sprinting—increasing your heart rate and then slowing it down—is a great way to build up muscle fast and get your heart pumping, and lifting heavy things, be they dumbbells or your own body increases bone density, and helps build muscle!
You Are When You Eat
Have you noticed yourself get in to a rut where you eat lunch every day after three? New research suggests that it’s not only WHAT you eat, but also when you eat it. Early eaters (of lunch) were MUCH more likely to lose weight—and even though when on the diet, the late eaters lost weight, too, the early eaters lost MORE weight, and also had higher insulin sensitivity, which is the number 1 way to fight diabetes! Our advice? Don’t skip breakfast, eat a healthy size lunch— as much as 40% of your calories for the day, and space out snacks in between to stave off hunger. Watching what you eat is still important, but make sure you pay attention to when you’re eating! If you find yourself eating late, try to move it forward by 15 minutes a day until you’re eating at a healthy time, definitely before 3pm.
