Over time, that glorious summer glow from the sun evolves into spots — blotchy, freckly, ugly spots. You look in the mirror and you don’t see your sparkly eyes, or your winning smile — you just see the spots.
An IPL Photofacial may be just what the doctor ordered to minimize those dark age or sun spots. Also effective for rosacea, broken capillaries, acne scars, fine wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, bags under the eyes and large pores, IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) therapy uses a patented Florescent Pulsed Light system to rejuvenate and refresh your skin and even out your skin tone.
The IPL Photofacial also stimulates collagen growth, which means the existing discolored skin flakes away making room for newer fresh skin. It can also gently dissolve broken capillaries, allowing them to disappear as they are absorbed naturally by your body.
The IPL Photofacial uses a laser that has been carefully calibrated to seek out specific pigments in the skin such as redness, darker discolored patches or dark spots from acne scarring. The IPL wavelength is optimized so that the energy is absorbed only by the unwanted melanin (pigment cells), raising the temperature on only the undesired pigments. Deeper level damaged blood vessels are treated at the same time. Shortly after treatment, the unwanted pigment cells fragment without damage to the surrounding tissue. In the weeks after treatment, the fragmented melanin particles are eliminated through a process that causes the fragments to be absorbed by the body. Little or no trace of the initial darkness remains.
Because the treatment is so gentle, there’s no need to interrupt routine activities or schedule IPL Laser Skin Rejuvenation well in advance of special events. As a “non-ablative” procedure, IPL doesn’t remove top layers of skin, but only pulses light into lower layers. Some patients compare the minimal discomfort to the “snapping of a rubber band” and the cooling mask applied after the IPL treatment leaves them refreshed and ready to get on with their day. Some patients experience an initial redness immediately following the treatment, but it generally fades within a few hours.
Results — dark spots and visible capillaries fading away — are usually noticeable within a week or two after the first treatment, and most patients see optimum results with a series of three to five treatments, spaced about three weeks apart. IPL is also used to treat spotting on areas other than the face, such as the neck and arms.
Unlike some day spas with only one to two laser skin rejuvenation options, Metro MediSpa offers several options, allowing the staff to find just the right combination of treatments to safely and gently give you back the lovely skin of your youth, and quite possibly, even improve on Mother Nature just a bit! A consult will help you determine which of their state-of-the-art laser skin rejuvenation procedures will be most effective based on your skin type and the nature of the flaws you want to vanish.
