Microneedling also called Collagen Induction Treatment (C.I.T), is a skin rejuvenation treatment that triggers collagen and elastin synthesis in the skin. The procedure is suitable for most skin types and provides visible results in a short period.
How Microneedling Works
Microneedling creates microscopic channels in the skin using needles that penetrate the delicate blood vessels under the skin at the hair follicle level. This causes slight bleeding which triggers platelets to leave the blood vessels and move to the surrounding tissue. A reaction occurs where the platelets produce hormones and growth factors which stimulate collagen and elastin production. This stimulated production gives the skin a rejuvenated and elastic feel.
After microneedling, one may experience redness and swelling or bruising which subsides after 24-48 hours. The treatment is recommended at least 4-12 times spaced 3-6 weeks apart depending on the skin’s condition. Complete rejuvenation is visible after 3-12 months and varies in different patients.
Microneedling shows the best results when the treatment is coupled with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). PRP contains growth factors that promote collagen production and cellular regeneration.

Microneedling at Home
At-home microneedling is not as effective as medical microneedling. The needles on the at-home devices do not penetrate as deep as medical devices. They are also non-sterile and could lead to infections.
Microneedling is an effective way to revitalize aging skin and skin scars. It is also safe and affordable. Consult your doctor before beginning the treatment.
