Day Spa Services Moms Will Love

May 7, 2018 By Constance Tambakis-Odom

Metro MediSpa Day SpaOne of the best gifts a mother can receive on Mother’s Day is a show of genuine care for her well-being. There is no better place to give her this special treatment than a visit to a Day Spa. Wouldn’t it be lovely for your mother to have three or four professionals at the spa attending to her needs? She deserves the royal treatment. No one can take the place of our mothers so we must show them we care, especially on a day that has been set aside to celebrate all mothers.

Day Spa services for moms have been carefully developed to be safe for women of all ages. If it is her first time, we will be delighted to take charge, and she will be in good hands. We recommend the following treatments. These treatments will help return that beautiful glow to her skin. Your mom will emerge looking years younger when we are done.

Botox/Dermal Fillers

Over the years, some parts of the facial skin may have contracted due to aging, and this is normal. But these wrinkles can be alleviated by using Botox and fillers to soften these areas from within. Our professionals are experts in using Botox and filler injections.

Chemical Peels

Get rid of all kinds of skin blemishes such as uneven skin pigmentation and acne. The results of a chemical skin peeling are healthy and evenly toned skin. This spa treatment is done by applying chemicals that have a low pH such as alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA), beta hydroxy acid (BHA) to cause the upper layers of the facial skin to peel away allowing a natural regeneration.

Microneedling

Microneedling is a skin treatment aimed at increasing the production of collagen in the skin. It is also referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT). It is a painless process which is applied to the affected areas on the face. Micro-needling is a standard procedure at the spa, and the results are amazing.

Give a gift your Mom will love.  A quick assessment will be used to determine the best treatment for your mom based on her individual needs and wants.  To order a day spa gift certificate call Metro MediSpa at 888-637-7228 or 910-599-9925.

3 Myths of Botox

June 5, 2017 By Constance Tambakis-Odom

Metro MediSpa botox wilmington ncBotox is amongst the most used treatments for fine lines and wrinkles. Many people have benefitted from Botox in Wilmington NC, but here is a majority of individuals who have misconceptions or myths about it.  Many folks are not acutely aware of what it does or doesn’t do.  Who are the best candidates for this treatment?  How do you know if Botox will work for you? Dispelling some of these myths will allow you to make an informed judgment.  Here are three myths about Botox with the facts.

MYTH: Botox is meant only for wrinkles

FACT: Botox is used cosmetic purposes, but also has other medical purposes. The effect of relaxing muscles has brought relief in other areas.  Botox injections have helped patients who suffer from depression, migraines, and excessive sweating.

MYTH: The perfect time to use Botox for cosmetic purposes is as soon as wrinkles, or fine lines appear.

FACT: People who have used Botox earlier have benefited in the long run. Some are using botox with greater frequency for preventative treatments rather than waiting for the lines to be visible. If a person waits until the lines become etched on the skin, it implies greater difficulty in smoothing them out. Wrinkles and lines develop as the muscles work to perform movements such as raising eyebrows, scowling, and squinting. Those people who start using Botox as a preventative measure, actually learn not to make certain facial expressions worsening their lines. Making certain facial expressions or reducing those facial expressions may require less Botox.

MYTH: Stopping Botox treatments will deteriorate the wrinkles

FACT: That is entirely false. The wrinkles and lines will just go back to their original position. Botox prevents the wrinkles from worsening as the treatment goes on. When Botox treatments stop, the relaxing effect of Botox will reduce and normal wrinkle development will resume. Botox does not make wrinkles worse.  Botox results last from three to four months. Sometimes, the results last a bit longer.  Muscles immobilized for long times and can atrophy. However, once Botox is halted, the muscles gradually return to their initial position.

Take Your Wrinkles to a Relaxation Spa

May 2, 2016 By Constance Tambakis-Odom

Metro MediSpa botox wrinkle fillersWe all want to live longer but no one wants to age… And why should we?  Are you worried about wrinkles? Fight back at the spa.  Those deep lines and wrinkles don’t stand a chance against relaxing spa treatments.  The aging process can be treated in a number of ways that will improve your complexion and leave you looking and feeling younger.  Treatments such as Botox and wrinkle fillers will leave you with a more youthful and radiant look.

As we age, so does our skin.  When we get older, fine lines, wrinkles, and creases develop in our skin. This process is called chronological aging and it occurs naturally.  When we are exposed to ultraviolet light, the process accelerates.   This is called photo aging.   But you don’t have to fight the aging process alone.  Extraordinary changes in your appearance can be made with the right treatment or combination of treatments.

BOTOX® is a prescribed medication that is used to temporarily improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  It is injected into the muscles and causes them to relax. This prevents the muscles from contracting and inducing wrinkle forming expressions.  These improvements last about three months.

Wrinkle fillers work differently than BOTOX®.  Fillers usually work in 30 minutes or less.  Instead of relaxing the muscles like BOTOX®, wrinkle fillers fill the creases, lines and wrinkles.  Consequently, trouble areas all but disappear.  The results can last anywhere from 4 months to over a year.

So, if you’re worried about aging, don’t!  Just relax and treat your wrinkles to a relaxation spa!

How to Enhance Your Lips as an Asset

December 7, 2015 By Constance Tambakis-Odom

Metro MediSpa, juvederm, botox, radiessePeople inherit their physical characteristics from their parents. When it comes to lips some people get full, plump lips and others get flat, thin lips that don’t do much to enhance their appearance. Add that to aging, which can cause the lower facial features to wrinkle and sag, and you end up with lips that now are surrounded by wrinkles and creases.

Fortunately, it’s possible to enhance lips with a variety of simple medical treatments that can be done in the comfort and safety of Metro Medispa. These treatments can be done during an appointment, with minimal recovery time. Soon lips will appear naturally enhanced, without the use of cosmetics.

Three of the best types of lip rejuvenation include botox, juvederm, and radiesse. Each procedure focusses on improving a specific aspect of the lips, to make a person appear more attractive.

Botox

Botox is a cosmetic treatment that can be used to correct a thin upper lip. This makes the top part of the lip more prominent. Botox is derived from a bacteria which has many medical benefits in relaxing muscles and easing age lines. Botox is inserted into the skin with a needle. It relaxes the facial muscles, which will cause the top part of the lip to naturally curl upwards.

Juvederm

Juvederm is an injectable filler made of hyaluronic acid. It’s injected into the upper and lower lips to plump them up. This has the benefit of decreasing the tiny wrinkles, cracks, and folds that become present over the years. A juvederm treatment will last from nine months to a year before needing another injection.

Radiesse

After having the lips plumped up, the surrounding laugh lines of a face should also be considered for a total rejuvenation. Radiesse is injected below the surface of the skin, and in the surrounding space above and below the lips. It has the benefit of filling in the laugh lines. It’s made from calcium hydroxylapatite and will correct moderate to severe laugh lines, and skin folds.

Many spa guests will combine two or three cosmetic medical treatments such as botox, juvederm, and radiesse to rejuvenate their lips and lower face. This has the combined benefit of making the face appear glowing and youthful once again.

BOTOX® and Dermal Fillers Solve Different Problems

November 8, 2015 By Constance Tambakis-Odom

The Problem of Menopause

Hormone Replacement TherapyGiven how menopause changes hormone levels, it should come as no surprise to learn that it can have a significant effect on the skin. For example, it makes the skin more susceptible to sunburn, which is particularly problematic because it also reduces the skin’s ability to repair its own tissues. Other common problems include but are not limited to increased sagging, increased wrinkling, and even oilier complexions as a result of increased sebum production. Fortunately, there are some simple and straightforward solutions to some of these problems, which should come as welcome news to those who are either undergoing or have undergone menopause.

How Can Botox Help?

One example is Botox®, which is a much more market-friendly name for botulinum toxin. Since it causes paralysis of the muscles, it has a number of medical uses, which range from reducing muscle spasms to bringing chronic migraines under control. Similarly, when Botox® is injected into facial muscles, it reduces the severity of sags and wrinkles by causing them to relax. Done right, this results in a more youthful complexion without actually reducing the patient’s ability to show emotions, which is an unfortunate side effect that has already become entrenched in the popular consciousness.

How Can Dermal Fillers Help?

Dermal fillers are another option that can be used to combat the signs of aging. Like their name suggests, they are injected beneath the surface of the skin to replace the soft tissues lost as a result of menopause. This can be used to fill in sags and wrinkles, plump out the cheeks, and even change the contours of the face for a more pleasing appearance. Better still, since dermal fillers are much more direct than Botox, they can produce better results with more deeply ingrained imperfections.

Since dermal fillers see use under such a wide range of circumstances, it stands to reason that they can consist of a wide range of materials. Generally speaking, these materials can be categorized as either organic, such as collagen, or inorganic, such as biosynthetic polymers. Organic materials produce better, more natural-seeming results, but have a serious problem in that they are gradually absorbed by the body. In contrast, inorganic materials are permanent but recognized by the immune system as foreign substances, meaning that patients run the risk of infection, inflammation, and other problems. However, it is important to note that new techniques and technologies are being introduced all the time, meaning that these problems are not necessarily here to stay. For example, a relatively recent technique called structural fat grafting is meant to make organic additions permanent by gradually layering fat so that blood vessels will have time to grow into them.

As always, those interested in learning more about these procedures should not hesitate to contact Metro-MediSpa for more information. After all, different procedures are better-suited for different circumstances, meaning that a recommendation from someone with the right expertise and experience can make a world of difference when it comes to the results.

Can You Use Fillers to Rebuild Lost Elastin?

July 20, 2015 By Constance Tambakis-Odom

dermal fillers, wrinkle fillersFor as long as patients have yearned for the proverbial fountain of youth, doctors have searched for a way to deliver it to them.  For decades, dermal wrinkle fillers have been used to provide a youthful appearance by restoring volume to wrinkled areas.   These results, though promising, have been temporary at best and have not assisted with the production of elastin, until now.

New discoveries dictate that there may be a way to use wrinkle fillers to help reproduce elastin in the skin.  With the potential to increase production of elastin in the skin, this will, more than likely result in some major changes for the filler industry.  Up and coming fillers, as well as those seeking FDA approval such as Juvederm Volbella and Volift, may consider making some adjustments.  The opportunity here is about fillers that do more than make the skin look good short term but actually improve skin quality.  The day is forthcoming for an injectable that will reverse and replace what aging skin has lost.

Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Steven Fagien of Boca Raton, FL. infers that space in time is nearer than we think.  His method of injecting diluted filler directly into the dermis, has shown the potential to be essential to producing elastin.  When improving  the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the skin, Dr. Fagien dilutes Hyaluronic Acid (HA) fillers such as Juvederm and uses smaller needles and injects the HA into the superficial dermis.  Since Juvederm is intended to be a subcutaneous filler, altering the concentration makes the filler more suitable for the mid or superficial dermis.  With this approach patients are seeing results that last up to a year or longer.  The results were different when these filler were used in traditional methods.  This procedure seems to give an uptick in elastin production and gives the skin a more improved look that simply creating volume does not provide.  However, studies have not determined how long the product must stay in the skin to maintain regular production of elastin.

Dr. Fagien reminds us that, “in a complete facial rejuvenation treatment, all components should be addressed.   With the challenge of the aging face, the skin remains the most important aspect.  We now understand that what’s missing from skin is elasticity.  This method of treatment gave the skin noticeable improvement.  It had a softer, yet firmer appearance and a greater elasticity.”  So, can you use fillers to rebuild lost elastin?  It looks like we’re getting there!
