Platelet-rich plasma is a concentrate of platelet-rich plasma protein derived from whole blood, centrifuged to remove red blood cells.
Blood is also called plasma and contains small solid components – red cells, white cells, and platelets. The platelets are best known for clotting blood because they contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors, which are very important in the healing process. PRP is plasma with a concentrated amount of platelets, or growth factors, that are 5 to 10 times greater than normal blood.
