Anti-aging Antioxidants to Slow Aging

Eating antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables may help to slow aging.  These potent phytochemicals found in fruits, vegetables and even green tea, can slow aging and prevent disease.  Recent research points to the benefits of eating a healthy diet, filled with a variety of antioxidant-rich foods to promote longevity and well-being.

Aging is a natural process in life, various factors can induce premature aging.  One factor is free radical damage to cells and tissue.  Free radicals are inevitable, as they are a byproduct of metabolism.  An excess of free radicals, due to exposure to toxins, a poor diet and even mental stress, can lead to serious health problems.  If these unstable compounds are not balanced by their natural counterpart, antioxidants, they are able to go and create all forms of damage.

Antioxidants are considered anti-aging because they are able to stop the onslaught of an excess of free radicals, protect cells and body tissue, hence slow aging.  Though aging cannot be totally stopped, the rate can certainly be slowed down.

Antioxidant fruits and vegetables are excellent sources of fiber, water, plant enzymes, vitamins, and minerals, all of which are known to slow aging and promote well-being.  People who consume a regular diet of antioxidant-rich foods tend to live longer and healthier lives.

Green tea, liquid wonder that helps to battle wrinkles. People in Asia have sworn by the stuff for thousands of years because of its “miracle” properties.  Chinese and Indian medical practioners have used green tea as a stimulant, diuretic, astringent, and to improve heart health.

Anti-Aging from the Inside

Although a diet rich in fruits and vegetables is essential for good health and keeping your skin glowing, some fruits really are wonder foods in terms of preventing aging.  Take the watermelon.  Even the seeds are packed with goodies, including selenium, essential fats, zinc and vitamin E; while the flesh contains vitamin A, B and C.  All of these help against free radical damage and aging.

Some “naughty” foods are actually pretty good at rolling back the years.  Take red wine, for instance, which contains resveratrol.  Resveratrol is said to have anti-aging properties as well as being a potent antioxidant, inflammation depressant, fat burner and artery protector.

Similarly, chocolate contains many of the health benefits of dark vegetables.  These benefits are from flavonoids, which act as antioxidants.
